OK think thick canvas and then think paint.
the canvas doesnt have to be canvas but canvas is good because of its texture it takes up the paint..now the paint, best if elastomeric but any outside latex would do in a pinch…and yes, roofs were covered this way historically as were airplane wings

tar if you have any around and some aluminum or sheet metal. Some time of cellophane or plastic wrap with adhesive around the leak. Silicone caulk if any.
