techniques for finding leaks in a flat roof?

It often enters one place and runs a long distance. have you seen the way the roof is built. Lots of layers of a weird “paper” that feels like felt. With tar in between.
At some point you have to have the old tar and paper torn off. Until then , buy the “elastomeric” coatings that are sold at Home Depot. And use a lot of it. The edges of the roof are the main culprits. And watch for “bubbles” in the existing tar.

I dont mean to ask a question but why would anybody think a flat rood is to shed off water.
Build a pitch roof, gable roof or hip roof on top and finally rid yourself of the headache.
