I have a ring that was passed on from my boyfriends nan before she died. We are thinking of selling it as times are down, however we have no idea how much it is worth, we do not want to spend money on a valuation and it is worth nothing. This contractor comes with good references (our neighbors for one), and has offered to do our roof for a good price. However, he warned us that he does not have liability insurance.

What does this mean? If a shingle falls on a passer-by, we could be liable and not the roofer? Or does it not cover damage done to our roof by the contractor?

Does anyone have any advice/experience with this?

i am a roofer. and my boss several occassions has deduct monies out of my check and the crew that i work with like for example: 1 year later a roof leaks we have to pay for the damages and for the crew who does the repair or if we do the repair we dont get paid and then it gets taken out of our check with no questions ask. and another one the man who hauls our dumpster told our boss we through away 5 squares of shingles instead of our boss looks in the dumpster he automatic takes it out of our check. i have been working for him for 8 years and the past almost 2 years he has been doing this. i dont know why he dont claim it on his insurance i mean what is it for anyway. i am in the state of florida and he is the one who pulls the permits and he pays us he is the one who gets the jobs not i. he signs my check and i dont think its right that he deducts those amounts for the cause when he accused us throwing away the shingle 2 of us quit because we tired of it. but in the state of florida i dont know what the rules and regulations are about this. but he saved himself almost 6,000 dollars in claiming on his insurance for those causes.
