Job was for estimate only on mobile home roof. Homeowner acknowledged need of repair by calling for repair estimate. Affected roof area was not visible. Estimator indicated that if he knew the roof was so badly rotted he never would have gone up. His foot pushing through the area caused approx. one square foot hole.
Homeowner states that estimator caused damage on roof and he is liable to fix roof for free.
Contractor was called to home initially to check plumbing leak. While there he saw material loose and/or hanging on roof. He suggested to homeowner it might be a problem and would they mind if he went up and checked the roof. They said “help yourself’. The rotted area was not visible but was obvious when the contractors foot went through the roof. There was no injury to contractor but homeowner insists that he damaged the roof and wants contractor to pay to repair it. Contractor feels that the roof was obviously in need of repair and the damage he caused was due to pre-existing. Does it change the outcome if the contractor suggested he check the roof? With the permission of the homeowner.
