LH asked:
i have an insurance adjuster that came to inspect my roof. he claims there is no hail damage, but i have a roofer claiming my roof is damaged from. the roofer points to loose granules. the adjuster agrees there are loose granules, but claims there are absolutely no bruises on the roof. i got on the roof with them and looked, and like my adjuster, did not see any circular “bruises” in my roof, but did not the loose granules. i also had some shingles blown off, and the adjuster lifted the tabs of the loose shingles, and there was no damage to the backing of the shingles. my roof is 10 years old, and my adjuster is claim the loose granules are likely from wash off and old age, but i have a roofer claiming there is hail damage but even he cant point out any bruises. who is most likely correct here? i **** to take issue with my insurance company when in fact it could just be a roofer trying to rip me(and the insurance company) off
i should also note that the haill appears to be at biggest marble sized. and the roofer’s main excuse is other people have had their roofs replaced. somehow i get the feeling the roofer is just trying to pull a quick one
correction: i DID see loose granules, but no bruises or dents
skytzo: i live in texas. and saying my neighbors had their roofs replaced doesnt mean quite as much. i live out in the the country, where you may see 5 houses in a 3 mile stretch on a county road. again, i just dont know, i did not see any bruising, no damage to the backing, and my adjuster told me that he did not see those roofs, and for all he knows the insurance company just paid the claim without sending an adjuster. he said that he lives in my area and knows we did not have much hail damage, and that he has to pay on my claims based on what he sees on MY roof, not my neighbor’s. he also explained hail is spotty, meaning you can have golf ball sized hail in one spot and little or no hail just a few miles away. if it were not for the shingles blown off and me seeing loose granules, i would not think a single thing was wrong with my roof. there was only one dent on my vent and it was about the size of the **** end of a pen. no hail damage to cars, carport, or anything else
ya, it sounds like the roofer is just unreasonable. one thing i did not mention because i did not want this to turn into a race issue, but i am black and so is the roofer, he told the adjuster that he was full of sh** and that if i were white i would be paying for the roof. the adjuster was stunned, and they both started getting into a verbal argument. after the roofer left, the adjuster sat me down and apologized for what had happened and tried to explain that he cannot justify replacing an entire roof because 4 shingles got blown off, and explained again there was no hail damage. however, he also told me hed be more than happy to coordinate a reinspection with his supervisor and if i desired a roofer(other than the one that was there today)
